Greg K. Monroe Foundation

Mission & Vision

The Greg K. Monroe Foundation is dedicated to empowering youth and strengthening communities by providing access to educational opportunities, mentorship, scholarships, leadership development, wellness initiatives, and enrichment programs. Rooted in New Orleans and extending wherever there is need, our mission is to inspire young people to reach their full potential and create pathways for lifelong success.

We envision a future where every child—regardless of circumstance—has access to the resources, support, and opportunities needed to thrive, lead, and positively impact their communities.

Purpose

Greg Monroe was raised in Gretna, Louisiana, in a single-parent household surrounded by a strong network of family, faith, mentors, educators, coaches, and community members who believed in his potential long before he became an NBA player. Their guidance, sacrifices, and unwavering support helped shape the values that continue to guide him today.

In 2011, Greg established the Greg K. Monroe Foundation as a way to give back to the communities that helped him succeed. What began as a commitment to supporting youth in New Orleans and Detroit has evolved into a broader mission to create opportunities for children and families wherever they are needed most.

Through scholarships, mentorship, community programs, educational initiatives, wellness experiences, and youth development opportunities, the Foundation works to ensure that every child has the encouragement, resources, and support needed to dream bigger, achieve more, and build a brighter future.

Greg Monroe

Greg Monroe is a New Orleans native, former NBA standout, entrepreneur, coach, and dedicated community advocate whose career has been defined by leadership both on and off the court.

Raised in Gretna, Louisiana, Greg attended Helen Cox High School, where he emerged as one of the nation's top basketball prospects. Following Hurricane Katrina, Greg and his family temporarily relocated to Houston before returning home and helping inspire the rebuilding efforts of his school and community. His resilience and leadership during this time earned recognition throughout the New Orleans area and helped shape his lifelong commitment to service.

After an exceptional collegiate career at Georgetown University, Greg was selected seventh overall in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. Over the course of a distinguished professional career spanning more than a decade, he played for multiple NBA organizations, competed internationally, and built a reputation as one of the game's most skilled and respected big men.

Following his playing career, Greg continued his impact on the sport by serving as a Player Development Coach for the New Orleans Pelicans, mentoring and guiding the next generation of professional athletes. Today, he remains active in basketball as Captain of Dallas Power in the BIG3 League.

Beyond basketball, Greg is the owner of Fyzical Therapy & Balance Centers, where he continues his commitment to improving the health, wellness, and quality of life of individuals and families throughout the community.

In 2011, Greg established the Greg K. Monroe Foundation to create opportunities for young people through mentorship, scholarships, education, wellness initiatives, and community enrichment programs. Inspired by the support he received from family, educators, coaches, mentors, and community leaders throughout his own journey, Greg remains committed to investing in the next generation and helping young people realize their full potential.

Through athletics, business, philanthropy, and community leadership, Greg's mission remains the same: to create opportunities, inspire growth, and leave a lasting impact on the communities that helped shape him.
